What to check before you transfer
Not every lift can move, and it's worth knowing before you commit. A transfer usually works well when all of the below are true:
Same or shorter stairs
The new staircase should be the same length or shorter. A longer flight may need extra rail added on.
Same side
Stairlifts are handed left or right when they're built, and that can't be changed — so the new stairs need to run the same way.
A socket nearby
There needs to be a plug socket within reach of the top or bottom of the stairs to charge the lift.
Straight, not curved
Straight lifts transfer well. Curved lifts are built to measure for one staircase, so they rarely fit another home.
If it can't be moved
Roughly half the time a transfer is straightforward. If yours isn't a good candidate, we'll tell you honestly and talk through the alternatives rather than push a job that won't work well. Not sure where your lift stands? Send us a few details below.
