Most straightforward removals take less than an hour. Longer rails, awkward access or unusual installations can take more time.

The chair and rail taken away
We remove the chair, carriage and rail, then carry the equipment out. You don't need to organise a separate collection.
Reuse before waste
Usable equipment and parts can be assessed for reuse. Anything that can't be reused is separated for recycling where possible, including the batteries.

Tell us about the lift and where it is. We'll confirm the removal price and what's included before you decide to go ahead.
What will the stairs look like afterwards?
The rail is normally fixed to the stair treads, so screw holes or compressed carpet may remain once it's removed. We'll explain what's likely with your installation. Removal doesn't include replacement carpet, decorating or structural repairs — no promises that every trace will disappear.

Not sure it needs to come out?
If you still need the stairlift but it has stopped working, a repair may be the better option. If you're moving house, ask about a transfer before deciding to dispose of it.
Questions about removal
Can you remove a curved stairlift?
Yes. Straight and curved rails are dismantled differently, but we deal with both. Tell us the make and model if you know it, and whether the rail runs around a corner or across a landing.
Do I need to disconnect or dismantle anything?
No — leave the lift in place. Don't undo the rail, lift the chair off or cut any cables. We'll deal with dismantling and confirm any electrical work needed before the visit.
Will there be holes or marks afterwards?
There can be small fixing holes in the stair treads, flattened carpet or existing marks that were hidden by the lift. We'll remove it carefully, but removal isn't a carpet replacement or decorating service.
What happens to the old stairlift?
We'll discuss whether you want it taken away, kept for later or assessed for reuse. Equipment that can't be reused is separated for recycling where possible. Reuse depends on its condition and isn't a promise of a buy-back payment.
Can you take it out temporarily?
If you are decorating or moving, tell us before anything is dismantled. We can discuss removal and later refitting separately; the rail may not suit another staircase. Storage, transport and refitting need to be agreed in advance.
How much does stairlift removal cost?
Removal uses exactly the same visit prices and travel bands as repairs, including VAT. Choose a Standard / pooled visit or an Urgent dedicated visit below. The removal package is different: we take out the chair and rail, rather than service or repair the lift. We check access and agree any extra work before the visit — no payment online.
