Outdoor equipment still needs the right attention
Stannah describes a purpose-built outdoor lift with a protective cover, foldaway seat and manual swivel. That is not a reason to treat an indoor lift as suitable for the same setting, or to assume an outside lift cannot develop a fault.
Weather exposure is useful background for an enquiry, not a diagnosis. Let us know about the cover and the site conditions, but do not open the casing, spray the equipment or try a journey on slippery steps to test it.
- Say whether the lift serves a front entrance, garden steps or another route.
- Mention a damaged or missing cover if you have noticed one.
- Take overview photos only when the steps and your footing are safe.
Describe the access as well as the lift
For an outdoor repair or service enquiry, include the model details and explain how the site is reached. A narrow side entrance, a gate or steps before the lift can affect how a visit is planned.
Tell us whether the problem concerns travel, the chair turning, the controls or the lift not responding. We work on many brands and can check whether we can assist with your 320, including any parts that may be needed.
- Model details and any paperwork available.
- A description of the symptom already observed.
- Your location and any practical access restrictions.
When an outdoor lift is no longer needed
If removal is the aim, say so at the start. A fault assessment is not necessary just to explain that the lift is no longer required. Photos of the rail and the approach help us confirm the removal options.
Replacing it with another outdoor lift also calls for an assessment of the stairs and access at both ends. Do not choose an indoor model simply because its chair looks similar or its rail appears to be the same length.
A useful starting point
Tell us what you have, and what has changed.
We work on many stairlift brands. The exact model, installation and fault matter, so send a few details to confirm the options and any parts needed.
- The model name and serial number, if you can read the label safely.
- What happens when you try to use the lift, including any displayed code or sound.
- Your county, and whether you need a repair, service, removal or replacement.
If the lift is not working normally, avoid using it until you have advice. Do not bypass a safety device or open the lift to investigate.

Questions about the Stannah 320 Outdoor
Is this guide for a curved outdoor Stannah stairlift?
No. It covers the 320 outdoor straight lift identified by Stannah’s manual list. Send the actual model details if the rail has turns or if you are unsure which outdoor installation you have.
Can an indoor Stannah lift be used outside instead?
Do not assume that. Stannah has a separate outdoor product. The setting, the stairs and the user’s needs all require assessment; an indoor lift should not be selected by appearance alone.
Should I mention that the fault appeared after rain?
Yes. Describe what happened and when, including any existing cover damage. That information can help an assessment, but it does not establish the cause or mean a particular part needs replacing.
