Start with the label and the rail
Handicare’s identification tool describes the 950 rail as wide with a flat top. That is a useful clue, but the model and serial label should take priority. Keep any “+” in the model name when you contact us.
Some older lifts carry Minivator branding. Handicare’s own history explains that its range was rebranded from Minivator, so send both the name on the chair and the details in the paperwork.
Tell us which seat and track options are fitted
The joint manual covers Simplicity, Simplicity L and Smart seats. It also covers optional powered footrests, a manual folding hinge and a sliding track; the Smart seat section includes an automatic swivel option. These are possible arrangements, not a checklist of features every 950 has.
If the rail moves or folds near a doorway, mention that. For a fault, distinguish between the chair failing to travel, the seat failing to turn and an optional feature failing to operate.
Preparing an older-lift enquiry
Send a clear photo of the diagnostic display without interpreting the code, the approximate age and the latest service record. Say where the chair is parked and whether the problem occurs in one direction or both.
For removal, include the full straight rail and any doorway beside it. For a possible replacement, explain what the user now needs from the lift. The condition and fitted arrangement need assessment before work can be confirmed.
A useful starting point
Tell us what you have, and what has changed.
We work on many stairlift brands. The exact model, installation and fault matter, so send a few details to confirm the options and any parts needed.
- The model name and serial number, if you can read the label safely.
- What happens when you try to use the lift, including any displayed code or sound.
- Your county, and whether you need a repair, service, removal or replacement.
If the lift is not working normally, avoid using it until you have advice. Do not bypass a safety device or open the lift to investigate.

Questions about the Handicare 950
Do I have a 950 or a 950+?
Check the model label and original documents, and preserve the plus sign if it is shown. The official manual covers both, so its cover alone does not establish which version you own. A rail photo and a seat photo help identify the arrangement.
Does “discontinued” mean my 950 must be replaced?
It means Handicare no longer lists it as a current product. Whether a particular lift can be serviced or repaired depends on assessment of that lift and the work required. Get in touch with its model, age and fault details to confirm the options.
