Where it stops is useful information
A curved rail may run around a corner, across a landing or along more than one flight. Explain where you first noticed the issue: at a rail end, on a straight section or near a turn. Do not make another journey just to reproduce a fault.
An overview from a safe place helps distinguish the chair, the rail layout and any parking section. A close-up of a display message is useful too, if it is easy to see without leaning over the stairs.
- Describe the part of the route where the problem was noticed.
- Copy any visible diagnostic message exactly.
- Include model details rather than relying on an older manual or an advert.
Check which features are actually fitted
Acorn lists a powered hinged rail option for the 180 where there is a doorway or opening at the bottom of the stairs. Not every installation has that option.
When contacting us, separate a travel problem from a hinge, chair or remote-control issue as best you can. You do not need to know the technical name: a description of what you have already seen is fine. Do not bypass a safety switch or move the rail by hand.
- Tell us if the installation includes a powered rail hinge.
- Mention whether the chair stops, beeps or shows a message.
A modular rail is not an automatic fit for another home
FastTrack describes Acorn’s rail system. It does not mean that a used 180 can simply be carried to another house and fitted without assessment. The rail route, landings and access need to be considered for the new installation.
For an existing 180, ask us about repair, servicing, removal or replacement options. We work on many brands, but the lift’s condition, installed version and parts availability must be confirmed before we commit to a particular job.
A useful starting point
Tell us what you have, and what has changed.
We work on many stairlift brands. The exact model, installation and fault matter, so send a few details to confirm the options and any parts needed.
- The model name and serial number, if you can read the label safely.
- What happens when you try to use the lift, including any displayed code or sound.
- Your county, and whether you need a repair, service, removal or replacement.
If the lift is not working normally, avoid using it until you have advice. Do not bypass a safety device or open the lift to investigate.

Questions about the Acorn 180
What does FastTrack mean on an Acorn 180?
It is Acorn’s name for the modular rail system used with its curved 180. It describes the manufacturer’s installation system, not a repair turnaround promise from StairliftRepair.ie.
Can an Acorn 130 part be used on an Acorn 180?
Do not assume so. They are different models for different stair layouts. Give us the exact model and serial details so any proposed part can be checked for the installed version.
Can you advise on removing an Acorn 180 with several turns?
Send an overview of the rail, its start and finish, and your location. We can review the enquiry and confirm the removal options. Please leave the lift assembled until professional removal has been arranged.
